In this workshop, you’ll explore the vibrant Chinatown precinct, rich in history and culture. You’ll learn essential photography techniques to capture this unique environment, focusing on composition, lighting, and both street and architectural photography during the day and at night. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have a portfolio of images showcasing your artistic vision and the captivating story of Chinatown’s evolution from its historical roots to its modern landscape.
Stroll along streets that were once home to clan houses of early Chinese immigrants and vices such as brothels, gambling, and opium dens. Some clan houses are still here, filled with several decades of history. These streets feature some of Singapore’s most stunning shophouses, constructed in the early 1900s, showcasing a mix of Art Deco styles and Chinese, Malay, and European designs.

Walking along the five-foot way allows you to photograph the distinctive decorative features and finishes. You will also come across one of Singapore’s oldest residential estates, offering insights into the local way of life.

Head up to a high vantage point to capture the city from a bird's eye view at sunset. Return to the streets to photograph those rows of colourful shophouses that come to life at night, making architectural photography particularly engaging in low light.
