FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. Workshops & Suitability

What photography workshops do you offer in Singapore?

We offer six specialised, hands-on photography workshops in Singapore:

Are your workshops suitable for complete beginners?

Yes. All our workshops are tailored to your skill level and photography interests. The Basic Photography Workshop is ideal for beginners using digital cameras, including DSLR and mirrorless cameras. The iPhone Photography Workshop is suitable for both iPhone and Android smartphone users. All sessions are conducted as personalised, hands-on coaching with a professional photographer.

Are the workshops private or conducted in groups?

Our workshops are conducted on a private 1-on-1 basis, allowing the instruction and pace to be tailored to you. If you are travelling with a partner, friends or family, private bookings for two or more participants are also available. Group rates are available depending on the group size.

What is the difference between a photography workshop, photo walk and photo tour?

A photography workshop focuses on learning — camera settings, exposure, composition, lighting and practical photography techniques.

A photo walk or photo tour focuses more on exploration — discovering streets, neighbourhoods, landmarks and viewpoints while taking photographs.

Our longer workshops combine both.

How do you combine photography instruction with a photo tour or a photo walk?

Our 4-hour and 6-hour workshops are designed as a hands-on hybrid experience. Instead of sitting in a classroom or simply following a sightseeing tour, you explore Singapore on foot while receiving personalised photography instruction along the way.

You learn how to see, compose and photograph the city in real time, applying photography techniques directly to the streets, architecture, changing light and night scenes around you.

2. Pricing & Booking

How much do the photography workshops cost?

Our current private 1-on-1 rates per person are:

For bookings of two or more participants, please contact us for the applicable group rate.

How do I book a photography workshop?

Choose the workshop that best matches your photography interests and preferred duration, then contact us with your preferred date, number of participants and photography experience. We will confirm availability and provide the booking details. Payment, cancellation, rescheduling and other booking conditions are set out in the Booking Terms on each workshop page.

How far in advance should I book?

Booking three weeks in advance is recommended, particularly for private sessions and for visitors with limited time in Singapore.

If you are already in Singapore, you can still contact us to check availability for a shorter-notice booking.

Can I bring a non-photographer companion?

Yes. You are welcome to bring a partner, friend or family member who is not participating in the photography instruction.

A non-photographer companion can accompany you during the workshop for an additional SGD $30 per person for 2-hour workshops or SGD $50 per person for 4- and 6-hour workshops. They can enjoy the walk and experience Singapore with you while you receive your personalised photography instruction.

Please let us know when booking if you plan to bring a non-photographer companion.

Are the workshops suitable for couples, friends or families?

Yes. Although our standard format is private 1-on-1 instruction, couples, friends and families can book together as a private group. The workshop can be adapted to accommodate different photography interests and experience levels where practical.

3. Practical Information

What camera or equipment do I need to bring?

For camera workshops, bring your DSLR, mirrorless or other digital camera, along with charged batteries and sufficient memory card capacity. A wide-angle lens is recommended for outdoor workshops.

For Night Photography, a sturdy tripod is required for long-exposure photography.

For iPhone Photography, bring a fully charged iPhone or Android smartphone. A portable power bank is recommended.

Comfortable clothing and walking shoes are recommended for all outdoor sessions.

Do you provide cameras or photography equipment?

Participants should bring their own camera or smartphone for the workshop. If you are unsure whether your equipment is suitable for a particular workshop, please contact us before booking.

Where do the workshops meet?

Meeting points depend on the workshop and route.

Common meeting locations include Outram Park MRT Station for Chinatown sessions and Clarke Quay for Singapore River, iPhone and Night Photography sessions.

Exact meeting instructions are confirmed after booking.

What time of day do the workshops usually start?

Start times depend on the workshop and the photography conditions we want to capture.

Day and street photography sessions, such as the Chinatown Photography Workshop, can be scheduled in the morning or afternoon. Workshops designed around changing light, such as the Travel Photography Workshop, Singapore River to Marina Bay Workshop and Night Photography Workshop, typically begin in the late afternoon to capture sunset and the transition into night.

As our workshops are private, start times can be discussed when booking and may be adjusted to suit your itinerary where practical.

How much walking is involved?

Our outdoor photography workshops involve walking between photography locations at a relaxed pace, with short breaks along the way to rest, review images and discuss photography techniques. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended.

The amount of walking varies according to the workshop and route. The 4-hour and 6-hour workshops involve more walking as they combine hands-on photography instruction with exploring Singapore's streets, architecture and landmarks.

Are the workshop routes wheelchair or stroller accessible?

Many sections of our routes use paved footpaths, accessible crossings and pedestrian areas, but accessibility can vary depending on the specific route and locations visited. If you or your companion have mobility requirements, use a wheelchair or stroller, or prefer a lower-impact route, please let us know when booking. As our workshops are private, we can discuss suitable route adjustments where possible.

What happens if it rains?

Our outdoor workshops generally run rain or shine. Singapore's tropical weather can create interesting opportunities for street and architectural photography and learning to work with changing weather and light is part of the photographic experience.

When possible, routes are adapted to covered five-foot ways, sheltered areas, shophouses and other suitable locations.

If there is a severe thunderstorm, lightning or other weather conditions that make outdoor photography unsafe, the session will be postponed to a later time or another day.

4. The Learning Experience

Can I combine the Basic and Night Photography Workshops?

Yes. The Basic Photography Workshop (2 hours) and Night Photography Workshop (2 hours) can be combined into a 4-hour evening photography workshop. This allows you to begin with camera fundamentals and exposure settings in the late afternoon before putting those skills into practice as the light changes and the city lights come on.

Can I customise a photography workshop or photo walk?

Yes. Private workshops can be customised according to your photography experience, interests, preferred subjects and available time. Contact us with your requirements and we can discuss the most suitable route, content and duration.

Will I learn how to use my camera in Manual mode?

Where appropriate, yes. Camera workshops can cover aperture, shutter speed, ISO, exposure and manual controls with the instruction adapted to your experience level. The emphasis is on understanding how and why to use the settings rather than simply memorising camera controls.

Will I learn composition and how to take better photographs?

Yes. Composition is an important part of our workshops. You will learn how to identify interesting subjects, use perspective and framing, work with light and find stronger compositions in real-world environments. The instruction is applied on location, so you can immediately practise the techniques you learn.

Are your workshops suitable for tourists visiting Singapore?

Yes. Our workshops are designed to combine photography instruction with exploring Singapore, making them suitable for visitors who want to experience the city while improving their photography. Depending on the workshop, you can photograph historic neighbourhoods, architecture, streets, the Singapore River, Marina Bay, sunset and the city at night.

What will I take away from the workshop?

The aim is not simply to photograph Singapore's landmarks. You will leave with practical photography skills that you can continue using after the workshop — including a better understanding of camera settings, exposure, composition, light and how to see photographic opportunities in everyday surroundings. For the longer workshops, you will also have the opportunity to photograph Singapore from a range of streets, architectural settings, viewpoints and changing light conditions.
